Maxine G. Crouch, 94, of Milton, passed away on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, Del. Maxine was born on September 29, 1927 in Georgetown, Del. to the late Irving and Madge (Hudson) Downes. She was a lifetime resident of Sussex County and was a member of Grace Church and CHEER. She loved playing bingo, and she was well-known for her excellent cooking skills. She worked for the Milton Elementary School cafeteria for over ten years. She also worked for Roxie’s Restaurant, Milton IGA, Atlantis Plastics, Draper King Cole Deli, and others throughout her life. Above all else however, she was a woman who loved her family dearly. In addition to her parents, Maxine is preceded in death by her husband, Daniel M. Crouch; her sons, Bill and Derrick Crouch; her infant grandson, William Anthony Crouch; and her brothers, Clifford and Lee Downes. She is survived by her daughters-in-law, Nancy Crouch and Tammy Crouch Bryant; her grandchildren, Dawn E. Crouch, Julie Y. Schirmer and husband CJ, William Zachary Crouch and wife Stacey, Matthew B. Crouch and wife Megan, and Danny M. Crouch; great grandchildren, Shelby Y. Schirmer, Jamie Schirmer, Luke Crouch, Abi Crouch, and Mason Crouch; as well as other relatives, including Woody Dennis and George Bryant. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St. Milton, Del. 19968. A time of visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be held at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milton, Del. As required by revised mandates during the pandemic, masks will be required for the health and safety of the family and those in attendance.
