Norma D. Allen

Norma D. Allen, 1928—2022. On June 16, God decided he needed a beautiful angel, so he took our mother, wife and grandmother to be with him. Norma was born September 13, 1928 to Dorothy Hatfield Dickey and Benjamin Dickey along with her twin sister Patricia Ann. Unfortunately, her mother died during childbirth and Norma was raised by her grandparents until they passed. Her aunt and uncle took the twins at age 13 and raised them until they were married. Norma graduated from Conrad High School in 1947. She met the love of her life Richard A. Allen at a school dance when he was home on leave from the Navy. They were married in 1948 and the rest is history. Norma and Richard owned their own business “Allen Heaters” where they worked side by side for 14 years. In 1981 they decided to retire and moved to Broadkill Beach. They enjoyed their life together meeting many friends and great neighbors. If you ever visited Norma she made you feel like you were part of her family. You definitely did not want to leave. Norma belonged to Richardson Park United Methodist Church where she was a life member. She is predeceased by her son Douglass Allen, twin sister Patricia, brother-in-law Vic, sister Ruth, and Elizabeth and Rubin Hutt, who raised her. Norma is survived by her loving husband, Richard A. Allen of 73 years., children Richard A. Allen, Jr. and Deborah Freebery, brother David Dickey, grandchildren Dana, Ryan (Erin), Daniel (Sarah), Eric, Erin (Joe) and 6 great grandchildren, James, Kelliann, Freya, Tripp, Declan and a baby girl coming next month. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 24, 2022 at 12:00 p.m. in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Street, Milton, DE and a time of Visitation will begin at 11:00. Interment will be in the Henlopen Memorial Park, Milton, DE. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE.
