VIOLA – Norma Jean (Nash) Friedel passed away peacefully at Bayhealth Kent General Hospital on Friday, July 9, 2021. Norma Jean was born in Milford, daughter of the late Henry and Lillie L. (Hollenger) Nash. After graduating from Caesar Rodney High School, Norma Jean began her lifelong career in nursing by attending and graduating from the Milford Memorial Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. After retiring, she continued her love of nursing in private practice with Dr. Dyer, Dr. David and, most recently, Dr. Bacchus. Norma Jean was an active member of the Milford First Baptist Church for over 40 years. She served the Lord teaching Sunday School for over 20 years, being involved with the ladies ministries and especially enjoyed keeping in contact with and visiting members of her Sunday School classes. Norma Jean was very well known for her infectious laugh. She loved spending time with her family, especially family game nights that included her grandchildren, doing jigsaw puzzles and reading. Norma Jean also thoroughly loved all things Christmas; everything from the decorating, to the shopping, gift giving and everything in between. In addition to her parents, Norma Jean is preceded in death by her two sisters, Waneta L. Rentz and Kathleen Bishop; one niece, Holly Bishop; and sister-in-law, Mary Trader. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Purnel F. Friedel; a daughter Debra J. Carey and her husband Mark; two grandchildren, Dustin Carey and Leah Carey; three nephews, Charles Rentz, David Rentz, John Trader “Rt. Rev. Bishop Alexis”; one niece, Diane Smith and her husband Gordon; brother-in-law, Merrill Trader; and caretaker, Melissa Doby.
