Norman T. Hansen

Norman Tellef Hansen, 94, of Lewes passed away peacefully Friday, Oct. 22, 2021, with his wife by his side. Norman was born Sept. 15, 1927, in Long Island, N.Y., son of the late Alfrida and Oscar Hansen who immigrated to the U.S. from Finland and Norway. Norman graduated from Port Washington Senior High School June 25, 1945. He was a member of the National Honor Society and was awarded the Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award for exceptional progress in science. After graduating high school, Norman attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y., where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering Saturday, Jan. 29, 1949. Norman was the president of the Rock and Mineral Club in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. He worked as a chemical engineer for 44 years in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. During his employment, Norman had numerous patents as a chemical engineer with Lehn and Fink in Bloomfield, N.J. Norman retired to Lewes with his wife Jennie, where he spent his years traveling to Europe and all over the U.S. He was a member of Groome United Methodist Church, spent years volunteering at the New Life Thrift Shop, as well as West Side New Beginning of Rehoboth. Norman had a passion for gardening. He spent the past 27 years building and maintaining a beautiful garden on his property in Lewes full of flowers, plants and vegetables. Norman was a very meticulous man who enjoyed puzzles, collecting postcards, foreign currency, and investing in the stock market. Norman loved root beer floats, mint chocolate chip ice cream, dark chocolate, but most of all, his family. Norman was a kind and gentle person who was truly loved by all. Norman is survived by his beloved wife, Jennie Hansen of Lewes; sister Ellen Kimble of Florida; daughter Lois Hansen of Laurel; son Eric Hansen and his wife Jennifer of Easton, Pa.; son, Christopher Hansen and his husband Francisco of Philadelphia, Pa.; his grandson James and his wife Chrissy; his granddaughters, Vanessa, Jessica and Valerie and her husband Jered, his great-granddaughters Kayla, Alivia, Mya, Artemis and Lilliana; his great-grandson Zack; and many cousins, family, and friends who will miss him dearly.
