Norris Lee King

April 22, 1941 — January 19, 2024

GEORGETOWN – Norris L. King passed away peacefully on Friday, January 19, 2024, at Harrison Senior Living in Georgetown.


Norris, known in his younger years as “Herb”, was born into the King family of the Cokesbury area. He was a 1959 graduate of Georgetown High School and worked as an electrician for many years. Norris began his electrical career with local contractors and would later retire after several years working at the Stockley Center complex. After retiring, he worked for several years at Delaware Tech as a mail carrier.


Norris loved to socialize with family and friends. He looked forward to monthly luncheons with his classmates, the Spring planting of his tomato plants, and attending stock car races at Georgetown Speedway. He especially enjoyed attending football games, with his cousin Joe Smith, and cheering on his beloved University of Delaware Fighting Blue Hens. In his quiet time, he enjoyed watching movies from his extensive DVD collection. He was also a long-time member of Georgetown Presbyterian Church.


Norris is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Ella King,  three sisters, Amy Carrier, Ellen Pepper, and Eunice Lubiniecki; a nephew, Todd Messick; as well as, his cat Buddy, whom he loved dearly and spoiled greatly.


He is survived by his sister, Ann King Messick and her husband Jim; nieces and nephews, Donna Price and her husband Wayne, Neal Carrier and his wife Lis, Elaine Ingram and her husband Barry, Steve Messick, Mike Lubiniecki, and Marsha Hearn and her husband Eric; brother-in laws, Ronnie Lubiniecki and Donald Carrier, as well as numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, several cousins, and extended family.


A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Monday, January 29, 2024 in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market Street, Georgetown, Del 19947. A visitation for family and friends will begin at Noon. Interment will be in Union Cemetery.
