Phillip W. Miles

Mr. Phillip W. Miles, 69, of Georgetown, DE., beloved fiancé of Linda Baker Wingate, passed away Thursday, May 13, 2021 in the care of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. Born September 26, 1951, in Salisbury, Md., to the late Thomas and Mildred Pusey Miles, Phil grew up on the family farm in Princess Anne, MD. From a young age, he showed a soft spot for animals, especially those in need of extra care. This love would stay with him all of his life. He graduated from Washington High School and, aspiring to serve his country, later trained for the National Guard until suffering a back injury. He spent his adult life working in the poultry industry. After retiring in 2015 from Merck Animal Health, Millsboro, DE, Phil continued his lifelong passions: his love of God; spending time with family and friends; collecting comic books; playing cards; reading about history; and caring for his animals. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Anna Mae Cox; brother-in-law, John Cox, Sr.; aunt, Dorothy Ruark; nephews, John Cox, Jr. and Matthew Drewer; and a niece Erica Rosado. In addition to Linda, survivors include a sister, Brenda Drewer (Earl) of Davis Wharf, VA.; a brother, Michael Miles of Princess Anne; aunt, Ruth Pusey of Pocomoke, MD; niece, Mary Ann Wallace (Johnny); nephew, Bill Cox; niece, Amy Savona (Vince); nephew, Andy Drewer (Kristen); nephew, Kenny Miles (Monica); and niece, Kelly Miles (Ronnie Parker). Linda’s family members who will dearly miss Phil include Rodney Baker (Jeanie), Brandon Baker (Sara and Madison), Ivy Baker Nabors (Bill). A funeral service, and celebration of Phil’s life will be held at Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St, Georgetown on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at 1:00 PM. A time of viewing and visitation will be held from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM. Phil will be laid to rest immediately following at Henlopen Memorial Park, 28787 Lockerman Rd., Milton, DE.
