Purnell Todd Messick

Purnell Todd Messick, 92 of Bedford, VA, passed away Saturday, August 20, 2022, at his residence. He was born on Saturday, February 1, 1930, in Cambridge, MD, to the late Raymond Lee Messick and Elsie Todd Messick. He was preceded in death by wife, Eleanor Johnson Messick, son, Darrell Messick, brother, Eldon Messick, and sister, Sandra Harper. He is survived by his son, Dr. Mark McDonough & wife, Judy; stepdaughter, Pat (Willey) Moore & husband, Bob; his grandchildren, Christian and Joseph McDonough, Clair Monaghan & husband, Sean Murphy and Kim Alderman and husband Scott; his great grandchildren, Fiona and Owen Murphy and Brett and Taylor Alderman, his sisters, Donna Lane & husband, Milton and Gene Mackert & husband, Bob. He owned Sussex Custom Cabinet Shop in Stockley, DE where he was a master cabinet maker and furniture builder. He also proudly served and was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was known for his exceptional sense of humor and vivid story telling. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at noon at Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St. Georgetown, DE 19947. A time of visitation will begin at 11:00. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery.
