Richard L. Sapp, Sr.

Richard L. Sapp, Sr., 84, passed away peacefully on Wednesday July 19, 2023.

He and his wife Barbara of 62 years owned and operated the family farm growing vegetables and grains. During the off season, he worked at Wilson’s Auction. He proudly served his country and state as a member of the National Guard, Governor’s Agriculture Advisory Council, DE State Farm Service Agency, DE and Sussex Farm Bureau, and DE State Fair Director. He was also a member of the Milton and Harrington Lions Club, First State Tractor Club, Harrington Alumni Class of 1958 who met monthly and the Zion United Methodist Church.

He was proceeded in death by his parents Bill and Marie Sapp.  He is survived by his wife Barbara; children, Jean Messick (Alan), Richard Jr. (Michele); grandchildren, Ryan Messick (Emily), Jeremy Messick (Brittany), Trey Sapp (Jackie) Lori Sapp; great granddaughters, Peyton Sapp and Olivia Messick; along with numerous adopted neighborhood grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal Street, Milton, DE, where a time of visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Interment will be at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Milton.

In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to either: DE Farm Bureau Woman’s Committee Scholarship Fund, 3457 S DuPont Hwy., Camden DE 19934, or Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford DE 19963.
