Richard "Vernon" Austin

Richard “Vernon” Austin, 90, passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at his home in Bridgeville, Delaware.

Richard was born on May 4, 1933, in Seaford, Delaware, to the late Willis and Violet (Chaffinch) Austin.

Richard was a life member of the Legion Post #6. He also served in the US Army from 1951 to 1953, serving in Vietnam. Richard loved stock cars and Nascar, mowing the grass, detailing his cars, and reading western books.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Townsend Austin.

He will be greatly missed by his wife, Virginia M. Austin; 4 children, Gerald Austin, Linda Sandifer, David Austin, and Dale Austin (Dianne); 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at 12:00pm in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market Street, Georgetown, Delaware. A time of visitation will be held prior from 11:00am-12:00pm at the funeral home. Interment will be at Cokesbury Cemetery in Georgetown, Delaware.
