Rodney T. Marvel, Jr. of Georgetown, DE passed away unexpectedly on May 6, 2024 at the age of 55. He was born on October 4, 1968, in Milford, DE. Rodney was known for his selfless nature, courageous spirit, being a perfect husband to Kim, and passionate commitment to everything he touched. He leaves behind a legacy of service and dedication to his community.
Rodney's professional career as a Master Electrician for Sussex County Government demonstrated his commitment to excellence and safety. He was currently employed by the State of Delaware, Fire Marshals office as a Fire Protection Officer.
Rodney was a 37-year Life Member of Georgetown Volunteer Fire Company. His career included being Chief, Deputy Fire Chief, 1st Assistant Chief, 2nd Assistant Chief, Director on the Georgetown Volunteer Fire Company Board and was currently acting as Training officer. He was a Past President of the Delaware State Fire Chiefs Association, and Past President of the Sussex County Volunteer Fire Chiefs. Rodney also served 35 years with the State of Delaware Fire School as an instructor specializing in vehicle rescue. He left an indelible mark on the firefighting community throughout the state.
In addition to his professional and fireman's work, Rodney also served on the Planning Commission for the Town of Georgetown, where his vision and diligence contributed significantly to the Town's development.
Rodney was preceded in death by his father, Rodney T Marvel, Sr. and mother, Aimee McCabe Marvel as well as his paternal and maternal grandparents. He is survived by his loving wife, Kimberly Lynn (Kelly) Marvel, his mother-in law, Cindy Catts, his sisters-in laws Jessica Catts and Chrissy Catts, and niece Kinsley Widdoes. In addition, he leaves behind his aunt, Jane Wilgus McCabe, cousins Rebecca G Baker (Allen), Laura G Walton, Paul B McCabe, Ann M. Reisinger (Randy), Kyle Brasure (Jennifer) and special friends that he considered to be family.
Rodney's infectious laugh, unwavering bravery, and boundless enthusiasm for life genuinely touched all who knew him. Rodney T. Marvel, Jr. will be remembered as a pillar of his community and his legacy will continue to inspire and guide those fortunate enough to have been part of his life.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at 1:00 pm in the sanctuary of Crossroad Community Church, 20684 State Forest Rd, Georgetown, DE 19947. A time of visitation will be held prior from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Church.
