Ruby Lee Aydelotte, Devoted Wife, Mother, and Friend to All Ruby Lee Aydelotte, 98, of Lewes, passed away at home with family at her bedside Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2022. She was born July 24, 1923, to William and Edna McConnell in rural Franklin, North Carolina. She moved to Lewes in the 1940s, met George Shockley Aydelotte, married and had two children, son, Willard Wayne Aydelotte and daughter, Connie Ellen Aydelotte Hetterich. She is survived by her daughter, Connie and husband Mark Hetterich, grandson, Richard Wayne Aydelotte and wife Stephanie Pruitt Aydelotte, granddaughter Kristin Lee Hetterich Begley and husband Stephen Andrew Leps, and great granddaughters Chelsea Ford Aydelotte and Ruby Michaela Leps and great grandson Whit Hetterich Leps. Proceeding her in death are her parents, eight brothers and sisters, husband George, and son Willard. After arriving in Lewes, Ruby Lee worked at the Hosiery Mill. After marriage she helped her husband with an ~100 acre farm (a portion of which is now Aydelotte Estates), raising their family. Later in life she worked as a home-health provider for 30+ years taking care of elderly with love and compassion. Ruby had a fantastic green thumb and it was evident when you looked at her yard or garden. Whenever you drove by her home you could find her with a hoe or a rake in her hand. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal Street, Milton, DE 19968. A time of visitation for family and friends will between 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Interment will immediately follow at Bethel Cemetery, Lewes, DE. Flowers are accepted or Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association – www.alz.org
