Ruth Dodd Baxter, known to most as Mom-mom, went to be with the Lord on September 17th, 2024, surrounded by her family’s love. She was greeted by her husband Jim and two sons Jimmy and Bill.
Mom-mom was the daughter of Frank and Elsie Dodd. She was born in Camden, NJ on January 3rd, 1930, and moved with her family to Harbeson (Doddtown) soon after.
Mom-mom was married on December 19, 1948, and was a steadfast farmer’s wife. She was known for her dedication to mowing grass, caring for the chickens, and instilling the love of cats in her great-grandchildren! Whether hosting an elaborate meal or a simple yet hardy lunch, Mom-mom could create a warm and inviting atmosphere in an instant. In addition to her hospitality, she loved playing bridge, Chinese checkers, and dominos.
Mom-mom was preceded in death by Jim, Jimmy, Bill, her sister, Mary Conaway Baker, and dear friend, Bessie Wilson.
Mom-mom is survived by her daughter-in-law, Suzanne; grandchildren, Katy (Brian) and their children, Natalie and Nathan; Kristy (Jason) and their children, Isaac, Elizabeth, Alden, and Ellis; Jay (Jessica) and their children, James, Jude, Justus, and Jordan; Bill; Melissa (Mike) and their children, Baxter, Sierra, Willow; and Brooke (Jon) and their children, Wesley and Tristen.
Ruth was a devoted member of Grace United Methodist Church in Georgetown, DE. and enjoyed fellowship with the Willing Strivers. She was active in many community organizations including the Republican Women’s Committee and the Delaware Farm Bureau.
Mom-mom was the epitome of Proverbs 31.
Her Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 21st at 1 pm at Grace United Methodist Church in Georgetown, DE. Interment will be at the Baxter Family Cemetery with fellowship time.
