Sandra H. (Welch) Dole

MILTON – Sandra H. (Welch) Dole, age 81, passed away in Dover, Delaware on February 8, 2022 in the care of Season’s Hospice. Sandra was born in Warsaw, NY daughter of the late Seward L. and Mary L. (Austin) Welch. Sandra worked most of her life in the resident care industry. After many years working in various nursing homes and assisted living facilities as an Activities Director, Sandra began a consulting organization called AGE. As a Quality of Life Specialist, she taught her students to become Activity Directors. She was involved in other activities as well such as, supporting the Multiple Sclerosis Society, organizing Residents Rights Rallies in Dover, creating the Funtastics Clown group, and many other contributions promoting quality health care in Maryland and Delaware. Sandra received many awards over the years for the selfless hours dedicated to activity professionals and the elderly. She attended Del Tech in Georgetown and received her Associate Degree in Applied Science. She was a mentor to many activities directors across the state and will be remembered as a person who defended the rights of the elderly and brought much joy and happiness to them and to those who worked with her and were fought for by Sandra. In addition to her parents, Sandra is preceded in death by her husband, John Robert Dole, and a son, Harley Dole. She is survived by two daughters, Heather Hampton (Charles) of Delaware, and Sherry Dole of Maryland; grandchildren, Joseph Hampton, Melanie Friday, Christen Dole and Jamielynne Dole; and great grandchildren, Maximus Hampton, Jolee Whitney, T. J. Morris, Noah Morris and Ava Marie Rickard. A memorial service to celebrate Sandra’s life will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, February 20, 2022 in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front Street, Milford, De 19963. A time of visitation for family and friends will begin 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Home of the Brave, 6632 Sharps Road, Milford, De 19963.
