Sgt. Jason Lee Nielson

June 19, 1978 — May 11, 2024

Sgt. Jason Lee Nielson, a revered veteran, cherished family man, and avid fisherman, left us on the 11th of May, 2024, after valiantly facing recurring battles with cancer. He was born on June 19, 1978, in Phoenix, AZ. His final days were spent in Milford, DE, surrounded by the love and care of his family and friends.

Jason's dedication to his country was extraordinary. In 2005, Jason was severely wounded while serving in Iraq. He was medically retired as a Sgt from the US Army. His service earned him two Purple Hearts, a testament to his bravery and resilience. Jason was blessed to be involved in many organizations for wounded veterans after his retirement.

Growing up, Jason had a passion for the outdoors, but it was fishing that captured his heart. He spent many peaceful days on the water and loved sharing his passion with his children, passing on this tradition and creating lasting memories. Those who knew him saw a fighter, he was relentless; not just on the battlefield, but also in overcoming his combat injuries and health challenges. As a loving husband, Jason was tenderly cared for by his devoted wife, Krista Lee Nielson, through most of his life and during his final journey.

Jason’s legacy lives on through his proud parents, Robert Nielson and Ann Nielson; his treasured children, Devin Varca, Hailey, Riley, and Madison Nielson; and his dear siblings, Melissa Owens, Heather Nielson, Jacob and Sabrina Sautter. His affectionate puppies and grandpuppy also feel his absence deeply.

Sgt. Jason Lee Nielson will be remembered as a hero who continued to protect, uplift, and inspire those around him, even when facing his toughest adversary. His memory will be a beacon of courage, selflessness, and love for all who had the honor of knowing him.

Jason’s Celebration of Life with Honors will be held on Friday, May 17th at 11:00 am at the Milton Memorial Park Gazebo, 113 Union St. Milton, DE 19968. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sgt. Jason Nielson’s honor may be made to the Semper Fi and America’s Fund at https://thefund.org/donate/.
