Georgetown—Shirley A. Hitchens
Shirley A. Hitchens, 87 of Georgetown, departed this life on October 29, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family.
Shirley was born on March 24, 1936, to her parents, James L. and Mary (Haich) Williams in Chester, PA.
She retired as an Assistant to the Librarian at the Delaware Technical and Community College and from the Sussex County Assessment Office. Shirley was a member of the Memorial Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Ira Hitchens and her sister Rosemarie Sperratore.
She survived by two sons Randy Hitchens and Jimmy Hitches and his wife Terri; four grandchildren; Leslee Hazzard (Brandon), Jay Hitchens (Jenn), Jenna Hanes (Dillon) and Malori Hitchens; nine great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Charlotte Adams and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at 1:00pm at Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market Street, Georgetown, DE. A time of visitation will be held from 11:00am to 1:00pm. Burial will be held at Union Cemetery, Georgetown, DE.
