Shirley (Taylor) Diogo Garrett

Shirley (Taylor) Diogo Garrett, 86, of Milford, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 3, 2022 at the Delaware Hospice Center. She was born on January 5, 1936 in Wythe County, VA, to the late William Taylor and Stella (Cook) Taylor Blessing. Shirley was a loving homemaker. She enjoyed running the family business she shared with her late husband, Arthur, Diogo’s Grocery & Mobile in the 1970s. She also enjoyed cooking for large family dinners, as well as dances, playing cards, and especially playing slot machines. While raising her four children, her home was always opened to all, and where many gathered through the years. She welcomed all with her loving, caring, and giving nature. In addition to her parents, Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Diogo; her son, Larry W. Diogo; her siblings, Giles, Harold, and Shelby; and one great grandchild. She is survived by her children, Joseph Diogo (Toni), Johnny Diogo (Lisa), and Kathy Diogo Argo (Donald); her eight grandchildren, Nicole, Jaime, Tyler, Johnny, Kristy, Zach, Rachel, and Lizzy; her five great grandchildren, Kally May, Kevin, Keyon, Kirra, and Christopher; as well as her “daughter from another mother”, LuAnne. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front St., Milford, DE 19963. At 1:00 p.m., a time of visitation will begin. Interment is private. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations be made to the Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriot’s Way, Milford, DE 19963.
