Stephen 'Skip' J. Shappee

Stephen ‘Skip’ J. Shappee, 70, of Frederica passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 2, 2022.

Skip was born in Horseheads, NY to the late Willis and Rose (Sardo) Shappee. He retired from the US Air Force, where he served in the Vietnam War, and subsequently retired as a Loadmaster. After the Air Force Skip went on to work and retire as a Master Insulator as part of the Local Insulators Union. He was an active member of the Dover American Legion Post 2 and over the years served as Commander, Executive Member and Finance Officer. He was a Past Director of the Dover American Legion Riders, a member of VFW Post 3238, a past member of Long Neck AMVETS Post 22, and the Milford Moose Lodge 2316.

He was a motor head, loved working on cars, as well as riding his motorcycles. He also enjoyed playing poker, shooting pool, dancing, and enjoyed doing carpentry. He also loved cruises and travelling in the RV with his wife.

He is survived by his wife, Mindi Campbell; children, Lisa Steele (Mark Steele), Kathy Forcier (Hobie Duff), and Taylor Shappee (Chris Lynn); sister, Martha Heater (Dearl Heater); step-children, Jessica Duke and Jimmy Duke; grandchildren, Andrew Crawford (Ashley Crawford), Jonathan Steele (Bri Bowers), Tony ‘TJ’ Forcier (Faith Morris), and Lindsey Steele (Travis Dill), Aurora Gates; 4 great-grandchildren, Chloe, Carter, Jaxson, and Walker; as well as several nieces and nephews. Skip was loved by many and will be missed.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, November 13, 2022 at 2 pm in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front St., Milford, DE 19963. The visitation will be from 12 noon to 2 pm on Sunday. A celebration of life will be held at the American Legion Post 2, 835 S. Bay Rd., Dover, DE 19901 following the funeral service.

Interment will be on Monday, November 14, 2022, at 2 pm in the chapel of the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE 19966.
