Susan Faye West

June 30, 1951 — March 29, 2025

Milford, Delaware

On Saturday evening at Bayhealth in Milford on March 29, 2025, Susan Faye West, the mother of her beloved son, Brian C. West, was called home by her Lord and Savior.

Sue was born in Milford, Delaware on June 30, 1951, to Marvel L. (Sam) and Beatrice Agnes Webb (Aggie) West. From early toddler days it was apparent that she would be the outdoor kind of child and she remained that way all her life.

She loved playing with her brothers and could play an awesome game of marbles or roller skate or catch lightning bugs as well as her brothers could. She would play dolls with her sister and it was never a surprise to find in their bedroom a hurt bird or frog that Sue thought she could heal. She loved animals and playing in the woods, making trails in the woods and making forts in the soybean field behind her childhood home. At Milford High School, she played hockey and was a very tough adversary. She liked all the school events and especially liked the dances, and was a big supporter of her brothers in their high school games. She was a chatterbox on the phone to her sister in college and never left our one detail on the drama at home with Randy and Bob. She, of course, never included her part!

Sue enjoyed planting and growing flowers, roller skating, ice skating, brisk walking, swimming either at the beach or her parent’s pool or her own small one in her backyard. She had a true love for cats, dogs, and especially horses. She loved Tuckahoe Camping Resort near Bethany Beach, where her parents had a seasonal camper for over 30 years. She could catch fish on Randy’s boat with the best of them, and she liked to crab and eat the fruit of her labor.

She loved helping raise her grandchildren with her son Brian, and each grandchild held a special place in her heart. She was so happy when her great grandchildren came along.

She attended Calvary Church all her life, and for a few years, attended Freedom Worship Center which was a church planted by her nephew and niece, Pastor Mike and Heather Mills. As the church moved north, Sue returned to Calvary and also visited United Church. She was kept very busy with the events and activities. She was also an avid reader and loved to sew. She was active in helping the less fortunate in her community and we all know she would give you her last dollar if you needed it. She remained active helping as she could with her failing health at dinners, teas, and other events like helping her sister at times decorate the church sanctuary as much as she could. She also liked being a part of the Red Hat Group, the Steel Magnolias, and what laughter she brought to the group!

Sue had several vocations during her life with working for several medical practices, a bank, and a part-time job for a while at the good ole Dairy Queen in Milford and at a grocery store. Her favorite job was working at Safeway for many years.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents Sam and Aggie West; her great grandson Halo Alexander West; her great nephew Jacob Williams; and sister-in-law Nancy West.

Sue is survived by her loving son Brian C. West; grandchildren Jessica Carroll, Trinity West, Alyssa West, Jared West, Braedon West, and Raven West; her precious great grandchildren Evelio Junior, Envy Le’anne Alvaraz, Blake Leon, Adylee Beatrice West, and Jayla Niayla West; siblings Dona Sapp (Dewey), C. Randy West, and Bob West (Patti Coker); and nieces and nephews Derek Sapp, Dafne Carnright, Christina Gaul, Matt West, Heather Mills, Aaron West, and their families; and many cousins. Sue will be greatly missed by her son, grandchildren, great grandchildren, siblings, and family.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 5th, 2025, at Calvary Church, 301 SE Front St. Milford, DE 19963. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am and the service beginning at 12 noon. Burial will be private. Her son requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to Calvary Church in her memory. She loved the color pink and purple, so come casual (jeans are just fine) and ladies put on your purple or pink.

Arrangements are in the care of Berry-Short Funeral Home of Milford, Delaware. Internment will be at a later date.
