GEORGETOWN – Sylvia R. De Leon passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at the University of Maryland Hospital as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.
Sylvia was born in Gloucester, England, daughter of the late Robert Hughes and Betty Hughes also of England. When in England, Sylvia worked at a match factory. Once coming to the United States, Sylvia worked for over 30 years at Sussex Pines Country Club where she made many life-long friends.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Pedro De Leon Jr., and a son, Mark De Leon.
She is survived by her daughter, Elaina Waggner and partner Wade Bowersox of Bethel; a son, Brian De Leon and wife Kelly of Georgetown; four grandsons, Michael Rogers and partner Kristina Green, Jeffery Waggner, B. Lane De Leon and wife Brittney, and Trace De Leon and wife Shelby; one granddaughter, Michelle Waggner; three great-grandchildren, Kylee Waggner, Rylin Waggner and Maverick De Leon; a twin sister Betty Weyman of Redbourne, England; several nieces and nephews in California and England; extended family, Michael De Leon and wife Karen of Phoenix, Arizona, and children, Jessica Ward and husband Jerre, Cory De Leon, and Zachary De Leon. Sylvia loved spending time with family and friends and was known to always have a good time.
A private graveside service will be held at the Delaware Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery. The family will welcome friends for a visitation on Friday, March 1, 2024, from 3-5pm at Mulligan’s Pointe, 22426 Sussex Pines Road, Georgetown, Del 19947. Light refreshments will be served.
