Velma J. Williamson

Velma J. (Hitchens) Williamson 91, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on March 4, 2023. Velma was born August 1, 1931 in Milton DE. She was the daughter of Fredrick and Ella (Lingo) Hitchens of Milton. At the age of 12, she moved with her family to Delaware County Pennsylvania. She and her husband Harry raised a son Marc and daughter Kelly in Brookhaven, PA. Velma also had a long career working in the Office of Personnel Management for the U.S. Government in Philadelphia. Velma returned to Sussex County to reside with her daughter in Rehoboth Beach.

In addition to her parents, Velma was predeceased by her son, Marc; husband, Harry; sister, Helen Shampansky; and brother, Dallas Hitchens.

Velma is survived by her daughter, Kelly Williamson (Julia Ellis) of Rehoboth Beach; grandsons, Nicholas Kirk of Rehoboth Beach, and Michael Kirk (Bridgette); and great granddaughter, Skylar of Phoenixville, PA. Also her nephew, Wayne Aston (Bernadette) of Wilmington, DE and their children, Wayne R. Aston (Kelley), Charles Smutz (Laura), Laurel Steinberg (Jeffrey) and Daniel Smutz (Karen); and numerous great grandnieces and grandnephews.

Many thanks to Delaware Hospice and Griswold Home Care of Lewes for providing care and comfort. Arrangements will be private, handled by Short Funeral Services of Milton. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Delaware Hospice.
