Virginia W. Sammons

Virginia W. Sammons, 93, of Georgetown, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, August 19, 2022. Virginia was born on January 20, 1929, in Chester, PA, to the late Harper T. and Clara B. Wolfe. Virginia was a longtime resident of Georgetown. She moved to Delaware from Linwood, PA. she worked for DuPont Corporation in both Wilmington and Seaford. She began working at Delaware Technical Community College in Georgetown when the college was built. She retired in 1991 as the registrar. After her retirement, she volunteered with Delaware Hospice for several years. Along with her parents, Virginia is preceded in death by her husband, Grover J. “Joe” Sammons; and her sister and brother-in-law, Elaine W. and Benjamin Atkinson. Virginia is survived by her nephew, Alan S. Atkinson and his wife, Ivette; great-niece, Alana Atkinson; great-niece, Luciana Lee; and many cousins. A very special thank-you is also given to Virginia’s caregiver of many years, Karen Fisher, for her excellent care, companionship, and dedication. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at noon at Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St. Georgetown, DE 19947. A time of visitation will begin at 11:00. Interment will be held at Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions are requested to be sent to Grace United Methodist Church, 7 S. King St. Georgetown, DE 19947.
