Walter J Hepford, Jr.

MILFORD - Walter John Hepford, Jr., 81, passed away suddenly on Saturday, August 8, 2020 at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital. He served honorably in the U. S Marine Corps. He worked at Leeds & Northrup and later, Honeywell. Walt managed several plants across the country during his career. Although Walt was born and raised in Philadelphia, he chose to retire in his beloved Milford, DE. For 12 of his 15 years in Milford he worked diligently to promote and support the city, sitting on several non-profit boards. Walt’s efforts to develop funding for the arts and develop a successful Farmers Market in the downtown area were well-rewarded with the success of these organizations. He leaves behind his wife of 31 years, Sharon (nee Bonner); four children, David Hepford, Jacquelyn (nee Hepford) Rennie, John Smyles, Andrew Smyles; sister, Alice; and six beautiful grandchildren. At Walter’s request, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Mispillion Art League, 5 N. Walnut St., Milford, DE 19963 or Downtown Milford, Inc., 207 S. Walnut St., Milford, DE 19963 . A celebration of life memorial service will be held at a later date due to current restrictions of the pandemic.
