Houston – Wayne Hammond, 78, was born on July 12, 1942 to the late Gertrude Legates and Lawrence Hammond in Farmington, DE. Wayne died unexpectedly and peacefully in his home on Saturday, August 29, 2020. Wayne worked hard and was the founder and owner of Hammond Plumbing & Heating, which was in business for over 30 years. Wayne was married to his loving wife, Jane, for 56 years and they raised their family in Houston, DE. He was a loving husband, doting father, dependable grandfather, as well as an extremely patient and understanding man. He loved working to provide for his family, as well as serving the community when called upon. Day or night he was there for his customers. He enjoyed motorcycle rides, sports, farming, and fixing things. After he retired, he enjoyed his last years spending quality time with his wife, Jane. If you knew Wayne, you know that he would like to be remembered as a quiet, humble man. Wayne was not much of a talker, but when he spoke everyone always listened. His love, laughter and memory will live on through his wife, children, grandchildren, and other family members. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Hammond. He is survived by his devoted wife, Jane Hammond; brother, Dale (Nancy) Hammond; sons, Bryan and Kevin (Ruby) Hammond; daughter, Shelly (Jimi) Luke; grandchildren, Kyle Hammond, Cameron and Zoey Merix; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. Private family services were held, per his wishes.
