William C. Degnats, Sr. 97, of Felton, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, January 31, 2022. He was born in Felton on December 28,1924 to the late Herman Sr. and Amelia (Warschewski) Degnats. In his younger years, William worked on his family’s farm, where he learned to become a jack-of-all-trades. That experience carried on throughout his life in a yearly garden and ability to fix almost anything. He graduated from Felton High School in 1942. Being a skilled mechanic led to employment for several garages: finally retiring from Schaefer Lincoln-Mercury in 1988. Many nights you would find him in front of the television enjoying boxing, car races and “Jeopardy”. Other major enjoyments were his coffee, baked goods and candy (Peanut Chews). He was a member of Manship Chapel. He held a special bond with his many pets throughout the years. In addition to his parents, William is preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Lee (Sapp) Degnats; his son, William Degnats, Jr.; and his siblings: Louise Degnats Hurd, Freida Degnats Minner, Theodore Degnats and Herman Degnats. William leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Catherine Larimore Degnats; his children, Richard Degnats, Larry Minner, Lynn Hobbs (Greg), Robin Degnats Bohn (Pete), and Dana Degnats; ten grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at Hopkins Cemetery, Hopkins Cemetery Rd., Felton, Del. 19943. A Celebration of Life gathering will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of your choosing is encouraged.
