On Thursday, April 6, 2023, WILLIAM P. CROCKETT, SR of Georgetown, DE passed away. He was 81. Mr. Crockett was the son of the late Edward and Hilda (Dize) Crockett. He was a retired commercial auto transporter for Anchor Motor Freight, Leaseway, and Penske corporations out of the former GM plant in Baltimore. Retirement did not slow him as he later drove a school bus for Harford County and a transit bus for DART (Delaware) before retiring again in 2018. Mr. Crockett and his late wife, Diane Crockett, moved to Georgetown in 2004 from Forest Hill, Maryland. He enjoyed driving, working on his lawn, card games, movies, doing crossword puzzles on Sunday mornings, and being a “cat dad” to his rescued cat Toby. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years and his brother Burt. He is survived by his loving children including Bill Crockett and wife Loretta Holmberg of Reisterstown, MD; Teresa Bartley and husband Peter of Street, MD; Wendy Crockett and husband Dan Morris of St. Pete Beach, FL; nephew John Crockett, nieces Debbie Buchwald and Linda Dise; and step grandchild Emily Masden.
A funeral service will be held at 12 PM on Saturday, April 22, 2023 in the Chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 East Market Street, Georgetown, DE 19947. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, with a celebration of life to follow. Visitations are Friday, April 21 from 6-8 PM and Saturday, April 22 starting at 11 AM at Short Funeral Services. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be sent to: Brandywine Valley SPCA (https://bvspca.org) or the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (https://alzfdn.org).
